Ground collect is a billing option that FedEx uses, which allows shippers to ship to the receiver and be billed to the receiver, without the use of a shipper number. However, this option is only acceptable to certain accounts that have been set up for such shipments, and simply selecting the service, does not mean that it will be automatically billed to the receiver.
There are also certain charges that the receiver can flip those costs back onto the shipper, per the way the account is set up. If the account isn't set up for ground collect shipping, then those charges are going to get reversed back onto the shipper.
The charges that can be turned around on your account often go unnoticed and can end up costing you a lot of money. Having Parcel BI in your corner allows you to know when you're hit with unexpected charges. For example, we exposed that one of our customers was actually paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in shipping that they didn't realize was coming back to them.
If your customers are big retailers or if you do a lot of shipping where the receiver is supposed to be paying the bill, you may unaware of these types of costs. This is something that Parcel BI exposes and can send you an Alert on!
In the photo below, you can see that in some cases, the entire package was being charged to this customer, and other times they were hit with just accessorial charges.
